On Saturday, December 18, 2021, The 43rd Cultural Festival of Shikoku Area KOSENs were held at uplaza-utazu, Kagawa. International exchange students studying at KOSENs in Shikoku Area gathered and conducted exchange activities such as displaying posters.
In the afternoon's first half, the students visited Nakanishi Chinshoen and Kinashi Ueki Bonsai center, Takamatsu, Kagawa, famous for producing bonsai (small potted plants), by bus and toured the scenery of the bonsai fields and the garden where bonsai were beautifully laid out. In the second half, the students tried making kokedamas on their own using a seven-year-old black pine tree. They enjoyed making kokedamas full of personality and brought them back as souvenirs. During the activity, the participant students were curious and asked questions regarding, for example, the definition of bonsai, evaluating bonsai, distinguishing bonsai with high-value, and maintaining bonsai.
Through experiencing traditional Japanese culture, the students strengthened their ties with one another.
