The 1st Foreign Student Speech Contest was held on Sunday, January 21, 2024, during the foreign student gathering at the Faculty of Education of Kagawa University. Mr. Lim Zi Yang, a fourth-year MS student, won the Excellence Award, having competed against 11 out of 30 contestants who had passed the preliminary round.

The speech topic was "What I thought and learned in everyday life." Mr. Lim delivered a speech titled "Living Bookstore," in which he shared his experience visiting a bookstore in Kagawa. He was amazed by the large number of customers and impressed by the wide range of genres available. During his speech, he compared the bookstores in Japan and Malaysia. Mr. Lim encouraged everyone to buy more books and read them.
